Undertow is a site-specific installation created from repurposed oil distillation equipment, including valves, gaskets, drains, pumps, pipes and faucets. The materiality of these objects—and the power found in their unison—underscores a larger metanarrative. Rooted in labor, these object of industry carry loaded histories. Storm Warning is two found chalkboards that list various oil products. The material trace of labor and landscape is located both in the marginalia and marks on the surface of the chalkboards, and in the petina found on the surface of the oil distillation equipment.
