The Tchefuncte River, located in southeast Louisiana, drains into Lake Pontchartrain. The river, since its early history, has provided its inhabitants with the resources necessary to support life. In the 19th century it was an important commercial waterway, where building materials and other products of the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain were loaded to be shipped across the lake to help with the construction of the rapidly growing New Orleans. ‘Ebb Tide" refers to the period between high tide and low tide during which water flows away from the shore. Collected objects of past labors, previously salvaged from the river, now serve as an index and memorial of past histories and traumas.
